2-Alarm fire hit MuLan on Christmas Eve

It was an unhappy holiday for MuLan Taiwanese Restaurant in Kendall Square (228 Broadway), which sustained damage in a December 24 fire. Wicked Local Cambridge reports that there were no injuries in the 2-alarm blaze, which occurred at roughly 3 a.m. on Christmas Eve.

While there were no injuries, MuLan did suffer some interior damage, and the adjacent Beauty’s Pizza suffered some smoke damage. The fire occurred in a storage area above the restaurant’s kitchen, said assistant fire chief Gerry Mahoney, adding that the incident was occurred in the rear of the building. He said that the cause of the blaze is still unknown.

“Structurally, the building will probably be OK,” said Mahoney. “But the interior is probably going to have to be gutted because of the extent of the damage.”
