Raising a child with disabilities offers its own unique set of challenges, which is why the Cambridge Public School District (CPSD) hosts both biweekly group meetings and drop in seminars for parents in this situation. The support groups allow parents and guardians to connect with others who understand their circumstances, talk about their stories, get support and find additional resources. All sessions are free.

A new set of biweekly group meetings begins January 13 at 6 p.m. at the Graham and Parks School (44 Linnaean St.). Meetings are held every other Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m., and parents who wish to participate in these support groups are required to register in advance.

CPSD also offers Special Start Support Groups drop in sessions that don’t require registration and are open to any Special Start family. Dates and times for these meetings will be announced soon, and there will be both morning and evening options that allow parents to work around their busy schedules. Childcare will be provided.

To sign up for the biweekly support group, parents can contact Rosalie Rippey by phone at 617-349-6516 or by email at rrippey@cpsd.us. For more information on Special Start’s drop in workshops, or to stay up to date on dates and times for these sessions, parents and guardians should email Special Start social worker Raquel Cerqueira at rcerqueira@cpsd.us or call 617-593-4402.
