Who We Are:
We’re Scout. We publish two free, hyperlocal, bimonthly print magazines—Scout Cambridge and Scout Somerville—with a distribution of 60,000 copies and two websites. We’re constantly on the ground in our community looking for interesting news stories, cool new businesses, and awesome individuals who deserve a shoutout. And we’re hiring.
What We Need:
Scout is looking for a highly motivated, independent candidate to serve as our first ever marketing intern. This individual will be responsible for a lot of different tasks. The intern will work alongside our founder and publisher Holli Banks, helping to curate our social media, attend various functions in the city, and plan our events
This position is ideal for students who are looking to gain invaluable experience. This is a chance to spend time learning about news that isn’t being covered by national outlets and see the ins-and-outs of running a magazine, while also cultivating an impressive book of marketing copy.
This is a one-semester commitment, with the opportunity to extend, depending on the intern’s availability. Interns can often work remotely, but will be expected to be present at various events and to coordinate with Holli Banks. Interns must receive college credit.
The deadline for applications is March 14, 2020. Please send applications by 11 p.m.
Who You Are:
You’re clever, organized and efficient. “Self-starter” is a job description cliche, but that really is the type of person we’re looking for. We’re a small team, and we need someone who’s comfortable taking charge, coming up with great ideas, and owning this role. You should be a strong writer and a sociable person who loves meeting new people and making connections. We’re looking for someone who isn’t afraid of meeting new challenges head on, and who is passionate about starting a career in marketing and event planning.
There’s also room for this position to grow. Let us know if you are interested in assisting with photography, video production, or more, and we will work with you to get you the skills you need to succeed.
-Current student pursuing a degree in marketing, journalism or equivalent
-Minimum one year experience in a marketing or writing role or internship
-Exceptional organizational skills
-Familiarity with Cambridge and Somerville
Would be a plus:
-Knowledge of Buffer or Tweetdeck
-Video production/editing experience
