Join Nicola Williams of the Williams Agency and Cambridge Local First on Thursday, June 4 at 4:30 p.m. for a Community Conversation about “how the small business community can both listen and lead” in the movement for black lives.
Williams, a former City Council candidate and long time event organanizer, brings two and half decades of marketing experience and a deep understanding of our community’s dynamics.
We at Scout have spent a lot of time listening this week. Listening, reading and watching our African American friends, family and leaders explain a lot of things that America needs to hear right now. As a publication, we’re still processing our response, hoping to contribute more than platitudes. We always strive for fair representation but the times call for more.
As a business, we’re trying to convey our implicit anti-racist values in an explicit and constructive way, without recentering the conversation or distracting from the mission of the movement. It’s a situation that many small businesses are struggling with, even in progressive enclaves like ours.
Be sure to check out Cambridge Local First’s great list of local black-owned businesses.
