We’ve already covered pretty much everything you need to know about celebrating the first annual Independent Bookstore Day, but to recap: Get to area shops including Porter Square Books and Harvard Bookstore early so to get your hands on limited edition, autographed merch from authors like Roxane Gay and illustrators including Hyperbole and a Half’s Allie Brosh. Stay throughout the afternoon for in-store talks and signings from authors and experts include Joanne Chang of Flour Bakery and New Yorker writer/editor James Wood.

32nd Annual MayFair

This year’s MayFair will feature some of the area’s best bands who will perform on the street. Harvard Square becomes an outdoor venue, with the main stage in front of Out of Town News and another stage on Church Street. The bands were handpicked by Bowery Boston and include local favorites like Bent Shapes and Hallelujah the Hills.
