scout picks

From Almost The Boss to steampunk violins, the hills of Cambridge are very much alive this weekend.

Friday

Bruce in the USA
8:30 – 11:30 pm, $20-$22
Sinclair. 52 Church St.

After eight years of impersonating vintage Boss to sold-out Vegas shows, Matt Ryan is bringing his bandana on tour, and he’s bringing the sounds of E Street with him.

Saturday

Bruce in the USA
8:30 – 11:30 pm, $20-$22
Sinclair. 52 Church St.

If you missed out the first time, or one night of belting out “Born to Run” just wasn’t enough, the UnderBoss will be darkening the edge of town for an encore performance this evening.

Joyful Noise
7:30 – 8:30 pm, $10-$20
Sanders Theatre
, 45 Quincy St.

For the eighth consecutive year, the Harlem Gospel Choir will join Sanders Theatre in honoring the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the most melodious manner possible.

Sunday

European Concert by The Hurdy-Gurdy Band
3 – 4:30 pm, $10
Touch Art Gallery, 281 Concord Ave.

A cranked string instrument that somehow manages to sound like a bagpipe, the Hurdy-Gurdy’s novelty is belied by it’s almost thousand-year old history in European folk music. The same way Mumford and Sons rediscovered the banjo, the Hurdy-Gurdy enjoyed a resurgence in the 18th century, and was featured in much popular music of the day- the focus of this afternoon recital.
