What’s New?: Paint is on its way

After a successful petition for a beer and wine license on May 14, owner and manager Leslie Belkner is getting ready to open Paint, a whole new kind of art bar, with a target opening in mid-September. The proposed application was for 20 seats and hours of operation from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. With carefully selected food and drink menus and a website that should be ready by the end of this month, the space promises to be an inspired addition to the area.

“It’s really different from the other paint bars out there, because we are the only one in the area that offers restaurant-level food,” says Belkner.  Although she does not want to disclose any particular menu items before the opening, Paint is “going to be offering some really exciting menu items, and a very upscale beer and wine list.”

Construction is still underway, but it is not expected to affect the art bar’s target opening date. Belkner has high hopes for the space’s decor as well, describing the desired aesthetic as “more like a studio than a storefront.” The studio interior was designed by local cambridge architect Andrew Hartness, of HartnessVision.

Paint provides the opportunity to create a full work of art in a single 2-3 hour painting session and take it home the same night. “No experience is required,” Belkner emphasizes. “It’s all about having fun and a social experience.”

Once the website is up and running, clients will be able to view a calendar and sign up for a day that works for them, as well as see what type of art will be instructed that day. Many different types of paintings will be offered, ranging from landscapes to animals in different styles and much more.

In the meantime, the Paint team has been teaching painting classes on Martha’s Vineyard at various venues while working on setting up the studio in Cambridge. But even two months of separation doesn’t phase this team. “We’re still excited for our target date in September, and it sounds like a lot of people are too,” says Belkner.-Caroline Kelly

Paint will be located at 31 Belmont Street in Cambridge and be open from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information contact Leslie Belkner at 781-526-6048.
